Ongoing Treatment

Private Medication

As a private medical practice, we are able to offer timely access to medication. Private prescriptions are offered initially for up to 28 days, extending to maximum of 12 weeks once a stable dose is achieved. Any changes to dose / medication will require a patient to book back in with Dr Gosney for review. Controlled medications can only be issued for a maximum of 30 days at a time, however we are able to offer repeat prescriptions in certain circumstances.

The maximum interval between review appointments in this clinic is 13 weeks, patients not wishing to be in regular review will be discharged from our care so that it is clear that we are not responsible for the management of patients who we have not recently seen.

It is important to be aware that a private diagnosis does not entitle a patient to expedited treatment with the NHS. We are happy to hand over our records should a patient be offered (and wish to take up) an NHS service, but our role is to assess / treat / medicate within the private sector only.

Shared Care

Once a patient is on a stable dose of medication, the patient can (subject to Dr Gosney’s agreement) ask their NHS GP to offer shared care. This means that the GP would write the prescriptions (which are then available at NHS prescription fee rate) as long as the treatment does not change and we, as a specialist are overseeing. As a private practice we would emphasise that this is a matter between the Patient and their GP should a patient chose to enter this route.

In order to supervise shared care we will book a patient in at our clinic for a paid appointment at least every 12 weeks. If we do not see a patient within this time, the shared care will be rescinded and the patient will be discharged from our care.

Any changes in medication or dose will require a new shared care request when the medication is stable again.
